No words... should have sent... a poet...

Sometimes I wonder if artists aren’t creating for me specifically. When I am exposed to things like the trailer to Zack Snyder’s (300, Watchmen), I feel like I have my confirmation. Hit the jump to see the trailer and my effusive gushing.

Mortal Kombat is a franchise that’s been in a losing fight to stay relevant for years. After it shook up parents and moral guardians across the country in the early ’90s with its over-the-top violence and gory fatalities, the series began to lose its relevance after a string of mediocre-to-bad games and two horrible movies.

The punk rock ethos is very near and dear to my heart. I’ve always been drawn to people with the DIY mentality, be they authors or musicians or artists or filmmakers. So when a friend shared an article with me about an emerging group of young Muslim and Hindu punk rock bands in America, I was immediately interested. The San Francisco Chronicle does a much better job reporting on the new scene than I could, so go read the article and then come back. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

I recently discovered Twisted Pixel Games through ‘Splosion Man, their maddeningly addictive platform title from the XBox Live Arcade, which is slowly killing me through sleep-deprivation. I’ve played the demo for their first title The Maw and enjoyed it a lot; I’ll pick it up once I take a break from this whole “broke college kid” thing I’ve got going on now.

Once in a long while, a rare type of song comes along. A song you never want to end. A Song so pure and powerful that it seems amplifiers and bass boost were made for it. A Song that will not, cannot, lose their impact for you, no matter how many hours you put it on loop. A Song that don’t just encapsulate a particular feeling or time in your life, but embodies all things good in life.

For me, “Paradise on E” by B0UNC3 is that song.

I have mad respect for martial artists. I’m a kung fu film junkie to the core. One of my goals in life is to learn a martial art, but as of yet my laziness and schoolwork have teamed up to keep me from learning how to bust some faces.

I also can’t stand the Twilight saga. At all. I won’t rag on it right now, but I can rant for hours about that insipid pile of crap. I’m pretty sure I’ve made fun of every actor/actress who ambled listlessly through the horrendous first movie, but now I may have to eat at least a few of those words.

Howdy.

In an effort to both expand my DIY horizons and find new ways to gush about stuff I like and rant about stuff I don’t, I am going to start a podcast relatively soon. By “relatively” I mean “after finals are over.” I would like nothing more than to start working on a podcast right away, but right now I’m more than a little swamped.

I don’t have a title yet, but the show will focus (if you can call it “focus”) on geeky pursuits that my cohorts and I enjoy such as movies, video games, TV, comics, and pop culture in general.

I understand that the market is already stuffed with geek-themed podcasts, so I’m taking the time to make sure this one is unique and fun. Expect the first episode shortly after the first of the new year.

Further bulletins will be posted as events warrant.
